I don't trust McCain. I'll watch the movie based on his book airing on A&E because he is a war hero through and through. But as far as politics goes, I never know what the guy is going to do. Is he really a Republican? If he runs against Bilary, I'm sure she'll win. And I'll know what I'm getting. I think. She's sort of trying to give herself a political makeover. I'll just sit in the corner, rock back and forth singing "Where have all the good Republican's gone?"

I dunno. I don't know many New Yorkers who like Hillary, and she'd have to carry the state. I also think the Clintons' time has come and gone. (She said wistfully.) I don't think she could beat McCain, either. I know a lot of people who said they voted for Kerry because they didn't want Bush, but they'd vote for McCain. Frankly, the whole thought of a presidential election makes my head hurt right now. And woo-hoo on the 45 pounds!

I'm a (displaced) New Yorker and I LOVE HILLARY. Pretty much all of my friends love Hillary and I for one am sick of her getting a hard time because of her husband. She is a fabulous senator, like her or not she is damn good at her job.

1) "I only go to Hooters for the low-carb Buffalo wings" would make almost as good a tee-shirt slogan as "My wife thinks I'm at Promise Keepers."
2) re 2008 elections: McCain will be 72 years old in 2008. That's three years older than Reagan was when he became President. So we'll have to see how his health holds out.... I think Hagel is too wiedely disliked in the party, but he would make an acceptable Vice President if the top of the ticket goes to a right-winger...Rudy Giuliani would please both moderate and conservative Republicans, so I'd keep my eye on him too...Hillary starts out as the heir apparent for the Democrats, but she's still quite untested. She's had a very easy time of it in New York politics, and has never really had to fight other Democrats before. We'll have to see.

Sprit, have you seen Jim Wallis's book, God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It? It's actually pretty good. Deals with a lot of what you're saying about us moderates (yes, I've swung back towards the cursed middle).

I happen to like Hillary Clinton and, believe it or not, that's why I think she should not run for president. (I hope she knows this too.) She has a good mind, excellent ideas and plans to help people. She can do that far more effectively from the Senate than she can from the White House.
