What a beautiful tribute to a great man. I am not Catholic, but I did look to him as a spiritual leader. Rather than cloister himself up in a golden palace, he walked amoung the least of us, the way Jesus did. May he rest in peace.

Beautifully written. He is truly John Paul II, The Great. And surely he will be a saint one day.

As you know, I am not Catholic and on the fence whether or not I am even a Christian, but I will say what I said in acaldwell's comments. "I am sad about this too. I am not Catholic, but there have been a few religious people throughout my life that I have absolute respect for. He is one. Mother Theresa was another. Regardless of faith, they were both people of pure goodness, faith and charity. He will be missed indeed."

The pope was the one thing that kept me on the fence about my Catholicism. Without him, I would have gone over the fence to atheism a long time ago. He was a great man. I watched Headliners & Legends last night and I was amazed at everything he did. His tolerance and love for anyone astonished me. I feel like my heart has turned into a twenty pound brick while I mourn his passing. Thank you for writing something about him.

This was lovely, and I agree with all that you said. I thought he was a most admirable man. I was very surprised the other day when someone at school said that he thought he was a terrible pope (women, birth control, etc.) He did so much beyond that; why should all that be ignored? He was a unique and charismatic and remarkable man.
