GRRRR! When my father died, I told a few people on staff whom I considered friends. The spouse of one of them works here, too, and she went around saying (in her obnoxious nasal voice, to boot), "Did you heeeeearrrrr? Pandi's faaaather diiiied and she's not going to the FUNErallllll." I expected my co-worker to tell his wife (and they know the whole story, btw), but if I didn't have to work closely with him every day, I'd tell her in no uncertain terms that it was not her place to tell people. So, my dear, I feel your pain with your co-worker blabbing to your students. Totally. Out. Of. Line. And. Inappropriate.

Well in the long run some of this type of personal stuff is really kind of ordinary and not juicy at all so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The book run sounds fun.
