My last roommate Liz grew up on an Indian reservation (somehow) and hated them with an intense passion that she usually reserves for a) being a Mormon and b) finding new ways to torture/tickle me. It was relatively delightful. She had some decent reasons too.

Oh for petes sake, just say Indian. I am an Indian I am not offended. We are too freaking PC -- and really Native American is an incorrect term. We are Indigenous people, or Indigenous Americans, as Jamestown S'Klallam Tribal Council (my people will tell you) The name "Indian" was first applied to them by Christopher Columbus, who believed mistakenly that the mainland and islands of America were part of the Indies, in Asia. Anyhow I don't care, don't not read a good book because of the word Indian.

When I was in gradeschool, which was quite a while ago, they showed us body parts of people who had died from either smoking or drinking and used graphic grossness to deter us from using drugs. Worked for me! Aside from the smoking, which I don't do now....

Good, glad to see snippetsofme came in 1st to tell you 'Indian' is more 'correct' than Native American. The one thing I hate more about the 80's than big hair is political correctness. It didn't make us nicer, just more devious in our hypocrisies. So sing out loud and rejoice....one little two little three little Indians!

You have picked two of my favorites--Charlotte's Web and Indian(sorry) in the Cupboard. I love the film version of the latter, but the former Disney(?) version is pretty cheesy. I hate Fern's voice!
