My 5th grade teacher had a talk with us about it was time for us to pay attention to our hygiene. She said sometimes people came to her desk with breath really bad or body odor and it was time to start taking care of ourselves. Addressed the whole class kind of thing.

Some of the 5th grade classes I have subbed in have Renuzit airfresheners placed strategically around the room. Also, I believe we got a letter home around the time my kids were that age suggesting things like deodorant. My friend's daughter came home one day and said their teacher told them all to go buy some for homework.

My daughter's school took care of that. They have a health/hygiene meeting in 4th & 5th grade to make the kids aware that changes are happening. This isn't "THE" big talk, just a precursor to the talk.

Write a letter to the parents, have the principal okay it and tell em plainly, your kids pits are beginning to stinketh, so let's clean those pits, and deoderize them.

A general talk to the class? Gosh, I don't know. I teach high school and usually have the school nurse do the hygiene talk.

I just remember my 5th grade teacher telling us that we were stinking up the room and if we weren't already wearing deodorant, to start.

My 5th grade teacher told us one day after recess that we needed to start wearing deodorant. She made it kind of a joke with the whole class so no one was offended. I honestly don't remember having any big finals to worry about until I was in middle school, at least.

Ah, my final will come in about three weeks. I'm a-shakin' in my boots. Or, y'know, tennis shoes. As for deoderant, I just remember our 4th grade teacher telling us that we all stunk when we came back from P.E. Don't do it one-on-one... that's embarrassing.
