Really, I think it's funny that you think "boner" is perfectly okay for a kid to use, but shy away from introducing them to the more medically accurate term - gasp! - erection. If a kid is old enough to start learning dirty jokes on the playground, he is more than old enough to start learning the truth. True, it shouldn't be you who's doing the teaching, but honestly, I'd much rather my children learn the textbook version from me (or another adult that I trusted) than from his buddies at school.

Good for you on your sound judgement and making the child call a parent of 'HIS' choice. I agree entirely with you that it is up to the Parents to discuss that subject with younger children. Far to often, parents are overly eager to hand over their parental duties to the schools.
