The boys don't often miss school, especially the oldest, but when we do take one of those days I say we had a family obligation. An obligation to go have some fun with their parents!

Well. We don't have money to do JACK SHIT MAN, so the kids just don't miss school. Unless they're sick.

Even as a kid, I caught every cold and flu bug that went around so I was out sick a feww weeks a year especially in winter. I had grade school teachers call my house and yell at me that they would flunk me if I didn't come to school. It's probably part of the reason I HATE to answer or talk on the phone now. Try being home sick with strep throat and bronchitis and your 4th grade teacher calls and yells at you that you'll flunk 4th grade for being sick. Nevermind that I was a straight-A student and my mom was doing all my missed school work at home with me. My mom was cool though, about 3 times a year she'd let me stay home when I was healthy and we'd do something fun. She called these "mental health days." There were never pseudo-family-deaths for this though. She usually just wrote a note saying I was not feeling well. I wonder if the teachers ever noticed I had new clothes one at those times? (We usually went shopping on mental health days!)

Ahh, the Lutheran tradition of leaving the front pews open to the unlucky latecomers. Our church finally decided to rope off the back five rows so that there was no option - people HAD to sit up front! I wouldn't have said anything unless I was a Lutheran also.. Missouri Synod to top it off. I truly enjoy reading your thoughts and insights on the eccentricities of the Lutheran people. :)

Love what they do at Rosie's church! We have many old people who sit in the front pews...but with many gaps...yikes.~~~~~As for the lying parent; what an example to be setting for your own kids. They'll be the 1st to slap the crap out of their kids for lying to them.

I have changed churches about four times since I moved here, I just cant get comfortable. I like evening service best myself, bit more formal :) lol reminds me of a story, the school came to my house one day with flowers and a card, my parents had been killed in a car crash so my sister said, we didnt even own a car but my dad took the flowers and fruit basket lol then beat the snot out of my sister lol
