I don't think that anyone could tell which way or what the election went in Florida. It was just one big mess, and if it tells us anything, it should tell us we need to clean up our system... and you know, idiots who don't know how to punch a whole should not be allowed to vote... just kidding. ;) But seriously, the only way I'd see the past election as being a bad indication of who should have been president is the fact that the popular vote did not go to George W... and in a democratic/republican society we are supposed to be representing the majority of the people... yet because of an archaic system, things like this can happen. (This system was created back when the federal government was considered subjugated to the majority will of the states, and not vice versa.) And you are right about one thing, that woman with the "no war for oil" sticker on her SUV is a hypocrite and a moron. I'm pretty liberal minded but realistic enough to realize that liberal politicians aren't wearing halos on their heads and they're not always right. That's just the way a two-party system works... you go with whichever half you agree with more than the other... and you don't take each issue individual, as I think you should be allowed to do...

We don't live in a Democracy. We live in a Republic. Republican systems are predicated on the idea of majority rule with respect to minority rights. This protects the rights and sensibilities of the two important entities in our Republic: the people and the States. The electoral college is antique but not archiac. Besides, everyone old enough to vote SHOULD have known that this could have happened - this is only the fourth time it has and they should have known that this is how we decided who is President.
