You could never be boring and I don't think you're a curmudgeon or you wouldn't be so funny. I don't know what's up with your friend and the chick thing. Maybe there is something that he does - besides not being an ass - that doesn't work with the women he is interested in and he doesn't recognize as part of the equation. I don't know the details in the case you describe and he may be a sweet fabulous on every level guy but from a female perspective I must say that I am often amazed by how many men that say women don't want a nice guy really mean - really hot babes that look like models and I (the really nice guy) would really like to bang and I (the really nice guy) couldn't possibly have anything in common with at all, don't really want a nice guy. Often guys don't go after the average girl at all - the women who often would be interested in the nice guy, bang him, and appreciate his niceness. They'd rather be scorned by the hot beauty that turns their head while the little mousy chick waiting for some notice never gets a second look or a chance to appreciate his niceness. For instance, my brother is drawn to younger women (at least 15 years youngers than he) who are blonde and look like arm candy but nothing ever works out because he's not looking for women with anything in common with him at all. I have a coworker who also admits he only dates younger women who are athletic and attractive. Women his age, he tells me, do not attract him. And he is still very single and in his 40s. For me as friend or sister or general observer this is often very frustrating to observe. Of course, all this is just my very humble opinion.
