Reference your comment: I called the school as soon as I got home about the incident, but the day staff had already headed home. I will be calling first thing in the AM to get the boy's name and number (if they will give it to me, or I'll just have to use the phone book). I want to call the parents to apologize and check on him. Youngest is deeply disturbed by this, which is a good thing, I wasn't sure if compassion was up there on his "emotions to have" list.
Do you really think we could be held liable? The incident happened during a sanctioned school activity supervised by the track coach. Hopefully, it won't get nasty. I know Youngest did not mean to hurt this boy, it was a terrible accident. We shall see.

I'm going to have to send you the card I sent my brother even though you are not celebrating a birthday and you are not my brother. I sent it to him because it has elevator music in it and it's totally silly. I love elevator music. It tranquilizes me - you should play it in your classroom. It might work.

Re: your comments. I would be interested in your research on the idiots that homeschool in your area. One in a thousand that isn't a complete wackjob is pretty frightening. You see where I live, the school districts are in a panic because over 1,300 kids left public school last year alone to be taught at home. Kids are flunking exit exams left and right. It intrigues me to learn more about homeschooling in different parts of the country. I attend school board meetings and home school meetings and I've yet to meet a real wackjob homeschooler yet. Maybe I'm lucky, maybe it's the moose nuggets. I don't know. :)
