I don't spank my kids ever. And they are pretty darn well behaved. If the best someone can come up with in terms of discipline is to smack their kid, they have issues. Spanking is hitting and hitting is wrong. All it teaches is fear, and that hitting is okay as long as you're bigger and stronger than the person you're hitting. It's completely counterproductive to raising children who become functioning adults. I want my kids to obey the rules because it's polite, because it's what adults have to do, and because it's the right thing to do, not because they fear a spanking. Spanking is punishment, discipline seeks to redirect and encourage positive behavior rather than reacting only to negative behavior.
