Unfortunetely, I think you've kinda missed the mark on the gay marriage thing. If it had anything to do with religion at this point, the variety of commitment ceremonies held every year in a variety of states by a variety of religious persuasions for gays would suit. What we want is for Rick not have to go to court to be Tom's sister or mother for POA when he's dying; to legally inherit his property; for them to benefit from the same tax filing preferences; as well as insurance benefits. Money has the most important role in marriage these days, not the church, and I don't think that bothers me.

Unfortunately YOU missed the point of what I was saying. I said that the state should be the arbiter of the civil and legal aspects of the union between two (or more) people, gay or straight but we shouldn't call what the state does marriage, at all for anyone. Marriage for many is just about money and legality and therefor it should be the role of the state, not the church and it shouldn't be called marriage.
