Barbara
I've spoke to several teachers and administrators over this 'No Child Left Behind'. They say its a battle that doesn't look likely to win. I know that in our School District, which to my dismay is kowtowing to the Minorities for LOADS of Governmental handouts, that the Parents aren't stepping up to the bat. We offer all kinds of programs...an AM reading Academy, which enables the children to pull up their reading/increase words per minute. Then we offer after school programs that give the children help with their homework. The children that would benefit the most from the programs, just don't show up. I live in the city (small), but reside in the best of the elementary school districts. When I was in Vin's class, his Teacher told me, of the 19 children in her class, only 4 students have parental involvement. Ie., homework. I truly feel its an uphill battle with only a greater distinction between the castes of society.

Barbara, again
I head a few days ago, then read in today's newspaper, that the Catholic School is dropping tuition for grades 6 through 12. Vinny will be going to that school once he graduates from the elementary school. Just the other day, a 12 year old girl was raped in the boys bathroom of the middle school, by a 15 year old (snort, 7th grader) and the school refused to discipline the boy. When asked what they'd do to secure the safety of the girl, the school said she should perhaps go to another school! That is what I meant by kowtowing to the minorities!
