Unfortunately there isn't a tactful way of not going to this convention. From my previous experiences, not teaching obviously, they also use these moments to observe your social skills. Lots and lots of notes will be taken about how you interact with others. It will then be evaluated later if your seeking a promotion.

re your comment in my diary.....I should have made the last portion of my diary clearer. The dance we sponser is an Adult Dance...no children. I had made an entry about the stupidness of those dances awhile back in my diary. What I was referring too was her giving my son and her daugher and friends alcoholic drinks while at her house! I've not yet said anything to her, but that doesn't mean that I've let the situation die. I believe in giving enough rope to hang yourself then I jerk it in so that you see my wrath. Matthew has since been avoiding going over there....purpose served.
