Yes, the best of the Kennedy brothers are dead and gone. Re the decorations - yes, if I were your mom I would be bummed about the decorations because it is really not about the decorating but about doing something cheerful together during the holidays. My suggestion is to put on a great Christmas movie or some great Christmas music, make some mulled wine, set out some snacks, and have some fun with it. It may turn into a nice memory.
