some lights seem eternal
in this springtime of hope

T minus 23 days

Today is the second day of Kitschmas. You can view my Kitschmas Gallery and this is the Second Day of Kitschmas . We put up a tree this year in our classroom. Tomorrow we have another marathon pageant practice. I hope no one dies.

I have trained my kids to be tiny versions of Amy Carter. They carry novels with them to the practice for the long stretches of time that they are not occupied by the music teacher. It is really a tragic time in their day. They are good kids but any kid is a bad kid when left idle.

The more interesting part of teaching in New England is that the accent is different here than in other places. Everyone has an accent but the weird part came in today when we were teaching homophones (multiple words, one sound) and they do not pronounce words the same way here that the do in other places making some words homophones and others not. Would and wood are not homophones but could and cold are.

Also, a spelling word in Fourth Grade this week was earthquack, instead of Earthquake, prompting a discussion about what an earthquack was. We spent entirely too much time on earthquacks.

Tomorrow we will learn about metaphors and similes. I cannot wait.
