The Worst of December

December 01, 2004
Say what you want about the differences between teaching public and private school, each has different and equally daunting challenges. December gives us the all-important Christmas Concert, which is our public face to our clientele. We see our clientele in smaller groups throughout the year, but this is the first time the will all gather to sit in judgment of us, and the work we do here.

This program should be the most amazing thing you witness this Christmas considering the children have been working on their for two hours a week for three months leading up to December at which point we turn over our lives to the who idea of this program but in the end it is held together by chewing gum, wracked nerves, and comes off only by the Grace of God.

I have faith in children; I do not have faith in coworkers. The music teacher is disorganized, rude to parents, children and coworkers, and does this every year so lacks an excuse as to why exactly everything is a mess.

The night of the program it all works out. The children pull things off wonderfully but every moment leading up to that point is nerve wracking.

Today is the first full day of rehearsals so we will see how things work out. I have two students out today by arrangement with their parents because of the mess the music teacher is. More to come.
