a short quiz

September 01, 2004
Here is a little quiz, with answers following:

1. Which campaign supported the use of Butterfly Ballots? Bush/Cheney or Gore Lieberman

2. Which campaign wanted ALL of Florida recounted? Bush/Cheney or Gore/Lieberman

3. Which campaign only wanted a recount in areas that their base of support was significant? Bush/Cheney or Gore/Lieberman

4. Which campaign sought to count ballots in their favor that did not have a vote for them but votes for members of their party? Bush/Cheney or Gore/Lieberman

Anyone But Bush people, especially my sister you may be shocked to have to remember 2000 and some facts to include:

1. Gore/Lieberman PUSHED for butterfly ballots while Bush/Cheney supported another kind of ballot. Why? Butterfly ballots and punch cards cause problems in counting votes and often fill with chads making the ballots uncountable.

2. The campaign that wanted ALL of Florida recounted was Bush/Cheney. They argued that it was the only fair way to do things AND that was the law in Florida. You had to recount the whole state. Why is this important? If you only counted some counties, not all, you would be changing the rules in the middle of the game. That is not fair to anyone.

3. Gore/Lieberman only wanted some counties recounted, not all of them.

4. Gore/Lieberman wanted votes cast for the Democratic Senate candidate to count for them in the Presidential race. Unfortunately, that cannot be argued as fair. There are tons of people who would, have and do vote for Democrats and Republicans. In Nebraska there was a tide of Republican votes for Ben Nelson as his opponent turned out to be shady and they did not want him representing Nebraska in the Senate.

So when you talk about stealing an election be sure to keep in mind that nothing was stolen. I know you want the popular vote to count but it never, ever has. This is the fourth time weve elected a President who has not won the majority/plurality of the popular vote and at least this time it was not shady. You should go look at the Cleveland/Harrison or Quincy Adams/Jackson numbers. Harrison and Adams did not win the popular or electoral vote, but they were selected as President by the House of Representatives. Do you think that is not fair? Of course, you do. You also cannot claim to have read the constitution. If you do not like the rules, change them before you play.

Bush at least won the states whose electoral votes he had. Do not mention Nader, we would have two Bush terms had he not run in 1992 or President Dole had he not run in 1996. His pull, nation wide, was bigger and Clinton always had a mere plurality in both his elections.
